The Police Service Commission (PSC) has ordered the retirement of police officers aged 60 and above, or those who have served for more than 35 years.
This decision comes on the heels of controversy over the extended tenure of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The PSC’s mandate, effective immediately, aligns with Public Service Rule No. 020908, ensuring consistency across service regulations.
In an interview with journalists today in Abuja, PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, explained that the commission’s order was necessary to ensure alignment with Public Service Rule No. 020908.
The PSC had previously allowed officers to use their enlistment date instead of the appointment date, but after reviewing the policy, it reversed this decision.
The new stance enforces retirement at 60 years of age or after 35 years of service, ensuring consistency with public service regulations.
The directive has been communicated to the Inspector-General for implementation.
