Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly withdrawn from the forthcoming governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.

The decision ends weeks of speculation surrounding his political future amid his prolonged rift with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The governor, according to claims circulating on Wednesday night, announced his decision in a personally signed statement titled, “My Decision to Withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries.”

Fubara was said to have pledged support for whoever emerges as the party’s candidate in the primary election scheduled for Thursday.

The development comes amid mounting political pressure within the Rivers APC and growing uncertainty over Fubara’s standing in the party’s internal power structure.

Recent reports had indicated that several politicians believed to be loyal to the governor were disqualified from participating in APC primaries in the state.

The political relationship between Fubara and Wike has remained strained since the governor assumed office, leading to a prolonged power struggle that sharply divided political structures in Rivers State.

Wike, who remains one of the most influential political figures in the state, has repeatedly denied allegations that he interfered in APC screening processes involving Fubara and his allies.
