Gunmen have abducted the principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, alongside an unspecified number of students during an attack on Friday morning.
The incident occurred between 8am and 9am when the armed men reportedly stormed the school premises and threw the community into panic.
A community source said the attackers whisked away the school principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, as well as several students whose exact number is yet to be confirmed.
The source further disclosed that a teacher was shot during the operation.
However, details on the victim’s condition had not been verified at the time of filing this report.
According to local accounts, the gunmen escaped with the principal in her vehicle and fled into a nearby forest reserve bordering the community.
Residents said the response from security operatives was delayed, allegedly due to the distance of the nearest police formation, believed to be the Ikoyi Division, from the community.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.
Alayande said the Commissioner of Police had mobilised officers to the area to assess the situation and commence investigations, though he did not confirm the number of persons abducted.
