William Congreve’s famous line, ‘Heaven hath no rage like love to hatred turned; nor Hell a fury like a woman scorned’, has played out differently in Lagos as a jilted man set his lover and a rival on fire.
Claiming that she didn’t play fair in their affair, the man simply identified as Femi allegedly killed the woman and left his suspected rival fighting for life at a hospital.
The alleged rival was simply identified as Akin.
Neighbours told Newsmakers the story of the love triangle and how things went downhill between the couple who were head over heels in love with each other.
A neighbour who pleaded for anonymity said, “Femi runs a beer parlour at Ijaiye area of Lagos. He employed a lady who later became his lover. We fondly called her ‘Iya Corner’. The affair was on for four years. And Femi was taking care of the woman and her three children.
“It was all rosy until Femi was no longer wealthy. Then, the woman allegedly began to date his friend, who goes by the nickname Currency.
“To rub salt in the wound, they made it an open affair at the beer parlour and Femi became angry. He got there yesterday, saw them together, doused them with petrol and lit them up.”
Only the suspected rival could make it to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Femi has since been arrested by the police.
