Top government functionaries are teaming up with journalists campaigning against irregular migration and human trafficking on March 24, in Osun State.

The event is being organized by the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) at the Villanova Polytechnic, Imesi-Ile.

According to the organizers, the group, which comprises of over 150 seasoned journalists across continents is taking the advocacy against irregular migration and human trafficking to schools and rural communities after hosting its inaugural international migration summit in Abuja in 2019.

A statement issued by JIFORM President, Mr Ajibola Abayomi, says JIFORM, having engaged in several international and local advocacies against irregular migration decided to take its campaigns to reach out to schools and rural communities to further enlighten Nigerians against activities of human traffickers.

He stated: “At the JIFORM, we have decided to walk the talk by taking the message of anti-human trafficking especially to the rural communities and students giving the growing concern regarding the rate at which Nigerians are being deceived to embark on unplanned journey premised on fake promises of a better life.

“It is our belief that we can’t continue to write alone as journalists focusing on migration; rather, the time has come for us to share practical experiences with the people and orientate them against attempts to lure them into modern-day slavery through deceits.”

Meanwhile, the group today presented a gift to the President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Chris Isiguzo who is on a 5-day working visit to Lagos.
