In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, has formally dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and declared his return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin made the announcement on Sunday in his hometown of Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, where over 2,000 Ulamas gathered to offer prayers for him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The prayers, held in honour of his political homecoming, also marked his public renunciation of the Kwankwasiyya Movement led by former Kano State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking before a large crowd of supporters, Jibrin said the decision to return to the APC was driven by renewed faith in President Tinubu’s leadership and vision for Nigeria.
“In a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” he said. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.”
The lawmaker, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, added that the 2,000 clerics who offered prayers at the event sought divine blessings for the President and for peace, unity, and development in Kano and across Nigeria.
Political observers see Jibrin’s defection as a significant boost to the APC’s consolidation efforts in Kano State, a key battleground in the North ahead of the 2027 polls.
