JAMB May Release 2019 UTME Results Next Week, Says Candidates can Check Via Phones

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that the results of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could be released next week.

JAMB Head of Media and Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed in an interview yesterday that candidates who sat for the UTME would be able to check their results in their mobile phones without recourse to the Computer-Based Test centres or cyber cafe.

He added that the release of examination results was being delayed by the undergoing screening for malpractices.

Benjamin said the board had designed a process, which would be announced shortly, to enable candidates to access their results through their mobile phones.

His words: “We are working round the clock to ensure the release of UTME results. Most likely, it will be at the upper week. We will use this week to conclude on screening of the results.

“Some stories flying around about how to check UTME results and others are all lies. We have not released any results. As soon as we release results, we will announce to candidates and also explain the process of checking such results. We have simplified the process. Candidates will use their phones. They don’t need to go to any cyber café or internet provider.

“So, candidates should disregard the processes of checking results being peddled around presently. We also did not deduct 100 marks for examination malpractices. If any candidate is found to have indulged in malpractices, such results will be cancelled, not by deduction of marks.”

The board also disclosed in a statement today that an investigation carried out discovered that the fake news about JAMB deducting candidates’ marks emanated from a gang who coordinated from a town called Igarra in Edo state with affiliates in Lagos and other states.

The board described the act as fraudulent and meant to extort parents and candidates.

“A gang being coordinated from a town called Igarra in Edo State with affiliates in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Abia, Anambra and Plateau states are circulating fake notice of impending reduction of UTME scores.

“This is with intent to extort and defraud parents and candidates.

“Candidates results would be received on their registered cell phones as soon as the ongoing scrutiny of the examination centers is completed and publicly announced.

“Only the fraudulent candidates or parents stand being defrauded on this matter,” the board said.

The 2019 UTME was conducted nationwide from April 11 to 18, with more than 1.8 million candidates sitting for the examination.
