A convicted burglar involved in a prison sex scandal has claimed his relationship with a former prison officer began after she smuggled takeaway meals into jail for him.
Linton Weirich, who was serving a sentence at HMP Wandsworth, was filmed engaging in sexual activity with prison officer Linda de Sousa Abreu inside his prison cell in June 2024.
The footage, which circulated widely online, sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about misconduct within British prisons.
Weirich later claimed the relationship started after de Sousa Abreu brought him food including Nando’s and Chinese takeaways while he was in custody.
De Sousa Abreu, who appeared in full prison uniform in the video, was later sentenced to 15 months in prison after admitting misconduct in public office.
At the time of the incident, both Weirich and the former officer were reportedly in relationships and had families.
Weirich, 38, was serving a four-year and nine-month prison sentence for stealing valuables worth about £65,000 from a flat in Kensington.
Court records show he has previously served prison terms for burglary, drug offences and grievous bodily harm.
The convicted burglar, who previously worked as a personal trainer, reportedly claimed some prison officers referred to him as a “legend” following the incident.
The scandal drew widespread attention after the explicit footage emerged online, prompting criticism of security and professional standards within the prison system.
