The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson has mourned the passage of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who joined his ancestors late Friday at Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital, Ekiti during a brief illness.
Lawson who was one of the first early callers at the palace in a condolence message lamented the loss, adding that she received the news of the death with rude shock.
“It is with rude shock that I received the sudden death of our revered father, King, his Royal Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Aláàfin of Oyo Kingdom. His death has come as a rude shock and we pray that the Almighty God will continue to grant him eternal peace,” she stated.
The Iyalode pointed out that the late monarch who reigned over five decades made impact as a historian of Yoruba race and of note,and will be missed as a great historian
“Baba Aláàfin of Ọ̀yọ́, Ikú Baba Yeye has been a king for over 5 decades and he has made his impact as a historian of Yoruba legacies. We have missed a great historian that will talk without even looking into books and quote without looking into books, a great man of vision who has left his impacts in the sands of time in the entire Yoruba race, the nation at large and the whole world. We are going to miss him and I pray that his soul will rest in perfect peace,” Chief Lawson added.
She prayed for the soul of the foremost traditional ruler to rest in perfect peace, and for the entire family, and the Oyomesi to have the fortitude to bear the great loss
“And as he joined his ancestors, may Jehovah God grant the whole family, entire Lamidi Adeyemi’s family, the fortitude to bear this great loss; may the whole Oyomesis also have the fortitude to bear the sudden loss of Kabiyesi, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Aláàfin of Oyo Kingdom, Iku Baba Yeye.
Baba, Adieu, Adieu, Adieu. You will be sadly and greatly missed,” Lawson added.
The Iyalode in the same vein, commiserated with the Oyo State Government, the entire Yoruba race, stressing that there was need to continue with the legacies he left behind.
She stated: “I commiserate with the Executive Governor of Oyo State on the death of Kabiyesi, Aláàfin of Oyo, the whole of Oyo State and the whole of entire Oodua Kingdom, Baba will be sorely missed but believe that his legacies that he has left would be continued. God bless us all.”
