Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi posted a short video showing the accommodation for the Super Eagles in Rabat, Morocco ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup play‑offs, and it quickly triggered public concern about lodging standards.

In the clip, Iwobi pans the view from his hotel window, showing older buildings and what many viewers interpreted as signs of a less than ideal environment for a national team in a crucial stage of qualification.

The accommodation in question is the Rive Hotel in Rabat, where the Super Eagles began their camp ahead of the tie against Gabon.

The team’s camp was reported to have officially opened with early arrivals including Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze.

Social media commentary was swift and sharply critical, with many Nigerians directing their frustration at the Nigeria Football Federation for what they believe is sub‑par preparation logistics for the national side.

On X, user @itsmrkemji wrote, “A Football match isn’t just about the 90 mins on the pitch. Things like transportation to games and accommodation also matters a lot but the NFF don’t care.”

Another user, @prolific_eric, added, “Players representing the richest black nation on earth. … This is not even a 2 star hotel in Morocco. How selfish and pathetic can you be to treat your national team players below average.‼‼‼”

Some defended the situation with a user noting, “There is nothing bad inside where they are, it is part of the training. … Thanks to NFF and Nigeria for this discipline.”

While the NFF has not released a detailed public statement specifically addressing the lodging debate, insiders described the camp atmosphere as “positive” and said the team’s base met standard requirements.

The timing of the incident adds to the weight of the story, as the Super Eagles gear up for the high‑stakes play‑offs against Gabon (and potentially Cameroon or DR Congo) in the pathway to the 2026 World Cup

To many Nigerians, perception of the team’s off‑pitch preparation matters as much as the on‑pitch performance.
