The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Alumni Association, Lagos State Chapter, will on Tuesday, February 6, hold its Engagement Convention at the Multi Purpose Room of the United States Consulate General, Lagos.
According to a statement sent to NewsmakersNG, the event will bring together members of IVLP to network, reconnect and discuss issues of common interests with representatives of the US Consulate. Mr. John F. Bray, the Consul General will be Special Guest of Honour, and Ms. Darcy Zotter, Public Affairs Officer who will be receiving all guests.
In the statement issued by Mrs Omowale Ogunrinde, the Interim Coordinator, International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP), Alumni Association, Lagos State Chapter says: “This convention will serve as a reunion and would launch a Mentoring Project for teenagers in Lagos State Secondary Schools in collaboration with the Lagos Consulate. This association is undoubtedly a fellowship of leaders that has continued to transform the lives of recipients as well as having stalwart effects on our professions and communities. The Network has distinguished Alumni, including Mr Femi Falana SAN, His Excellency Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Mrs Nike Okundaye of Nike Art Gallery, Mr John Momoh the CEO OF Channels Television, Mr Soni Irabor, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Mr Dan Okoye and many others.
The Reunion will be a day to also remember the likes of the Late Princess Christie Suinner and others who passionately and selflessly served the Alumni by sponsoring a lot of community projects until her death.
The IVLP is the U.S. Department of State’s foremost professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, present and budding overseas leaders in a multiplicity of disciplines experience America firsthand and develop lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings are set up to reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.
NewsmakersNG learnt that IVLP Participants are nominated and selected annually by the staff of U.S.A. Embassies and Consulates around the world.
Each year, nearly 5,000 International visitors from all over the world go to the U.S. A. on the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). More than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP over the years, including more than 100 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government.
