At least 45 people have been killed in a series of air strikes launched by the Israeli military across the Gaza Strip, Gaza’s civil defence agency and several hospitals said.
The revised death toll came from Gaza’s civil defence spokesman, Mahmud Bassal, who confirmed that the strikes occurred across multiple locations including central Gaza, northern Jabalia, and western Gaza City.
Four hospitals confirmed receiving the dead and wounded.
Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat reported 24 dead and 73 wounded; Al-Aqsa Hospital said 12 dead; Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis reported 5 dead; and Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed 4 fatalities.
The Israeli military said it had resumed enforcement of the ceasefire and targeted dozens of Hamas sites after two Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Gaza amid claimed ceasefire violations.
The strikes represent the most serious single-day escalation since the U.S.-brokered truce took hold on October 10.
Both Israel and Hamas accused each other of breaching the agreement, with Israel blaming Hamas for the soldiers’ deaths and Hamas denying responsibility while insisting it remains committed to the ceasefire.
Humanitarian access into Gaza remains severely constrained, and international agencies have warned that renewed fighting could exacerbate the dire conditions already affecting the enclave.
