A joint operation by the Police, Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), in the early hours of today, has led to the killing of alleged deputy commander of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), simply identified as Ikonso Commander.

The operatives reportedly stormed the operational headquarters of IPOB in Awomama village, Oru East local government area of Imo State in a dawn raid.

Police sources told NewsmakersNG that after a fierce gun battle, security forces succeeded in killing the man said to be military commander and deputy leader of IPOB and six others.

Six AK-47 rifles, ammunition of different calibres and assorted charms were allegedly recovered from the scene.

NewsmakersNG learnt that three policemen and one army officer sustained bullet wounds during the raid and were receiving treatment at an undisclosed location.
