Intruders left the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria Limited, Mr Gildas Tohouo Tohouo, battling for life yesterday after killing his wife in cold blood.
A mother of three, the Hungarian wife of the Cameroonian MD of the international shipping company was murdered last night in an attack suspected to have been masterminded by a staffer in the residential estate where she lived with her husband on Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos.
NewsmakersNG also learnt that Tohouo was injured and he is receiving treatment at a hospital on Victoria Island.
A security source told NewsmakersNG that some suspects, including an electrician that works for the couple, have been arrested over the attack.
The suspects allegedly colluded with their friends to perpetrate the crime.
The source said the suspects were initially detained at the Ikoyi police station, but they were later transferred to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, in Panti, Yaba.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident.
He said in a statement that the couple had organised a party in their house when the suspect invited his accomplice to join them at the party.
After the party around 11.30pm, there was power outage in the building and the electrician offered to assist the couple in fixing the fault.
The couple reportedly accepted the offer and allowed him in because he is someone they know very well in the estate, but immediately the suspects entered the house, they allegedly attacked the man and his wife.
The statement reads, “The man had a party early in the day, and when people left, there was power outage.
“So, the electrician knocked on the door, offering to help the couple fix their power.
“When the door was opened, they attacked them, and stabbed the man and his wife.
“The man survived, but the wife died due to the injuries she sustained from the attack.
“The suspects wanted to rob the couple.
“Two suspects – Ade Akanbi and Olamide Adegoke – have been arrested and the knives used in perpetrating the crime has been recovered.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has visited the scene, while homicide detectives have also cordoned off the area.
