International Women’s Day: NGO Lectures, Celebrates Female Police Officers

Editor/

A non-governmental organisation, Family & Youth Support Initiative (FYSI), has admonished female police officers not to see the digital or technological aspects of policing as the exclusive preserve of their male counterparts.

The NGO also sensitised them on the numerous opportunities digital technology offers to accelerate their career growth and also maximise their potentials.

Delivering a lecture at the Idimu Police Division, Lagos, today, on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘DIGITALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,’ Executive Director of FYSI, Mrs Bukoladeremi Ladigbolu, emphasised the need for them to also encourage their female children to pursue careers in STEM education.

She admonished them not feel inferior to their male colleagues, rather, should compete with them in all aspects of police work, especially in intelligence and forensics, which often requires the use of technology and science.

She equally enlightened them on how they can use digital technology for self development, as well as to create additional streams of income without violating the codes of their profession.

She added, “Between husband and wife, I am aware that the bible expects us to treat our husbands as the head. I want to assume that the Quran also prescribes the same. But when it comes to professional relationships, women must not allow themselves to be relegated to the background. We must be ready to learn the skills and embrace challenges that will help us get to the top in our chosen career.”

The NGO also distributed gifts to the participants at the end of the lecture.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Gladys Tayo Faniyi, was represented at the lecture by the Admin Officer, DSP Olivia Okorie.
