The Federal Government appears to have engaged and empowered some Fulani men to keep watch on highways in the Southwest and Southeast where their kinsmen are reportedly attacking and kidnapping commuters.

Evidence of this engagement was provided by a lawyer and lawmaker, Hon Kayode Ajulo, in a post seen by NewsmakersNG.

Ajulo narrated his encounter with the Fulani Vigilante group on his way from Akure yesterday at about 4pm.

Evidence: An official ID card of the Vigilante group.

He said, “They are already mounting highways with guns openly doing ‘security work’ and they have direct phone lines with the neighboring police stations confirming they are legitimate.

“Few days ago I condemned the mounting of roadblocks in the South-East by these Fulani Vigilante. Unknown to me, they are already in the South-West. They even showed me their identity cards.”
