A final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Yetunde Lawal, was found murdered after being reported missing last week.
The suspect, identified as Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, a 29-year-old Islamic cleric and son of a prominent religious leader in the Isalekoto community, is currently in police custody in connection with the crime.
According to reports, Yetunde went missing on Monday, February 10, after attending a naming ceremony.
Witnesses stated that she received a phone call during the event, left abruptly, and did not return.
Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her disappearance to the Oja-Oba Police Division the following day.
Police investigations revealed that Yetunde had been in contact with Ballo, whom she met on Facebook. Ballo allegedly invited her to his residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin.
Upon his arrest, Ballo initially denied any involvement but later confessed that Yetunde had visited him and claimed she died from an asthma attack.
However, a search of his residence led to the gruesome discovery of Yetunde’s dismembered body concealed in a bowl, along with tools believed to have been used in the act.
Further evidence suggested this might not have been his first offense, as a table equipped with body-dismembering tools was found in his room.
The Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, stating, “The command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal.
“On 11/02/2025, at about 18:00 hours, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division, Oja-Oba, by her father, Mr. Ibrahim A. Lawal.
“Immediately, police detectives swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect.
“The case was transferred to the SCID for a thorough investigation. Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.”
