The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, today paid a working visit to Zamfara State, where he joined police officers, grieving families and residents in observing the Islamic funeral prayer, Salat al-Janazah, for three officers killed in the line of duty.
The visit came amid renewed security operations against banditry and violent crimes across the state.
The police chief also visited the Zamfara State Police Command to commiserate with officers and men of the command over the loss of their colleagues and to reaffirm the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to restoring peace and security in the troubled North-West state.
Disu was received by top government officials and security stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented Governor Dauda Lawal during the funeral prayers and related engagements.
Addressing officers at the command headquarters, the IGP described the slain personnel as brave and patriotic officers who paid the supreme price while confronting criminal elements terrorising communities in Zamfara.
He conveyed the condolences of the Force Management Team and the entire Nigeria Police Force to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would never be forgotten.
The IGP said the tragic loss would further strengthen the resolve of the police to intensify operations against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state and across the country.
He charged officers to remain focused, resilient and professional in the discharge of their duties, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to undermine the determination of security agencies to secure Zamfara and other affected areas.
Disu also commended the Zamfara State Police Command for what he described as significant operational successes recorded in recent weeks, including the arrest of criminal suspects, recovery of explosives and dangerous weapons, rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of stolen motorcycles and successful offensives against armed bandits.
According to him, the achievements reflect the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, operational dedication and collaboration among security agencies in tackling insecurity.
The IGP assured officers of continued improvements in operational logistics, welfare and other critical resources required for effective policing.
He further stressed the need for intelligence-driven operations, stronger community partnership and sustained inter-agency cooperation in the ongoing fight against violent crimes.
Disu urged officers and men of the command to remain steadfast, disciplined and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, noting that the greatest honour that could be paid to the fallen officers would be the continued pursuit of peace, justice and security for the people of Zamfara State.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to supporting personnel and strengthening ongoing efforts to protect lives and property across the country.
