The International Centre for Human Rights, Non-Violence and Safety Awareness (ICHRNVA) has taken its anti-trafficking campaign to schools, with a one-day sensitisation lecture designed to educate secondary school students on the tactics used by human traffickers to lure unsuspecting victims.

Held on October 30 at Lagos City Senior Secondary School, Yaba, Lagos, the event tagged “Protecting Young Minds to Stand Against Human Trafficking” aimed to empower students with critical information on how to recognise and resist deceptive offers.

In her address, Barrister Ene Sarah Unobe, Chief Executive Officer of ICHRNVA, emphasised the urgent need to enlighten young people about the dangers of human trafficking. She explained that traffickers often entice victims with bogus promises of overseas opportunities, education, or lucrative employment, only to subject them to exploitation and abuse.

The awareness campaign was organised in collaboration with Hychraris Humanitarian Foundation, with support from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Unobe expressed appreciation to the partners for their support, adding that such collaborations are vital to building a well-informed generation capable of resisting the schemes of human traffickers.

The event attracted representatives of NAPTIP, school management, teachers, and hundreds of enthusiastic students who engaged actively in discussions and drama sketches illustrating real-life trafficking scenarios. Many students described the session as an eye-opener, pledging to become advocates against human trafficking in their communities.
