Six notable Icons of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) were honored at the body’s 2023 Annual Dinner and Awards held on May 6, 2023, at the Monarch Event Centre, Ikate, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.

It was the 51st in the series, and it was acknowledged by dignitaries as a most outstanding outing.

Merit awards were given to two corporate bodies, two non-members, and four members who celebrated and expressed appreciation for the honor.

After the welcome remarks by the Chairman Publications and Image Committee for the event, Mr. Tobi Abiola FCA, the Special Guest of Honor, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed FCCA, FCA, the Sarkin Shanun Kano made some remarks before the address by the ICAN President, Mallam Tijjani Musa Isa MIoD, FCA.

Those who were celebrated at the event are the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel FCA; Mr. Kunle Elebute FCA, the former Regional Partner and Chairman of KPMG Nigeria; the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly – Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugbo FCA; the Founder and President of SIGNAL House Consulting Ltd, Dr. Greg Ezello FCA; the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Mr. Muhammad Nami, and Alhaji Usman Yahaya Kansila, the Managing Director and CEO of UYK Nigeria Ltd.

The honored corporate bodies are the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd (NBC) and Pedabo, an independent member firm of Morison Global that provides Audit Assurance, Tax Consulting, and Advisory.

Nami dedicated the award to his alma mater from primary to tertiary levels; his former colleagues at the Presidential Committee on Audit of Stolen Recovered Stolen Assets; members of the Tax Advisory Committee of the FIRS; all taxpayers; the Board Members, Management and staff of the FIRS, and his family members.

Nami was described by the ICAN President as an unassuming and humble achiever who has led the FIRS to excel in the international tax circle despite global economic challenges by achieving milestones in revenue collection.

Isa said, “This Award is in recognition of your positive impact on society. You have made a significant contribution to the institute and to Nigeria. The governing board deemed it fit to acknowledge the role you have played and your outstanding achievements.”

The Vote of Thanks was given by ICAN Vice President, Dr. Innocent Okwuosa FCA.
