Former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), is set to unveil his autobiography, titled, ‘A Journey In Service’, on February 20, 2025. The event will also serve as a fundraising occasion for the IBB Presidential Library.
The launch, scheduled at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, will be chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, with President Bola Tinubu as the special guest of honor.
Former Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, is slated to deliver the keynote address, and Nigeria’s former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will review the autobiography.
Other distinguished guests include ex-presidents Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan.
Theophilus Danjuma, a former minister of defense, and Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, are named as chief launchers.
Seven years prior, IBB had expressed reservations about penning an autobiography, questioning whether Nigerians would be interested in reading about a former dictator.
He acknowledged that public perceptions of him were influenced by his role in the June 12 crisis and various controversial policies enacted during his tenure from 1985 to 1993.
The forthcoming memoir is anticipated to provide personal insights into IBB’s years in power, shedding light on pivotal moments in Nigeria’s history.
The simultaneous fundraising for the IBB Presidential Library aims to establish a center dedicated to presidential scholarship, public policy, and political history.
