The management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has attributed the poor power supply being experienced in some parts of Ogun State and its environs to the shortfall in energy allocated from the National grid.
Mrs Angela Olanrewaju, Head, Branding and Corporate Communications of IBEDC disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Olanrewaju said that this became necessary to set the record straight against some publications misleading the public on allegations that the company deliberately refused to supply power to some areas in Ogun State.
The statement reads in part: “Our attention was drawn to a report tagged “Pain of IBEDC on Ogun Residents’’ which we wish to clarify issues to our esteemed customers.
“The issue of load-shedding being currently experienced in some parts of Ogun State and other parts of our franchise area is because of the shortfall in power allocated to the company in recent times.”
Olanrewaju stated that the supply to Owode, Idiroko, Atan-Ota, Iju and its environs emanated from two feeders from Idiroko 33KV feeder (source 40MVA, 132/33KV Transformer, Ota T/S) and Lusada 33KV feeder (60MVA, 132/33KV Transformer, Agbara T/S) under Ota Business Hub of the company.
She explained that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has transformer limitation from the transmission station serving the two feeders.
She revealed that the Agbara 132/33KV Transmission station which feeds customers on Lusada 33KV network of IBEDC was pegged at 12MW load allocation and the load requirement of the feeder is 35MW.
She stated further: “Ota 132/33KV Transmission station that feeds Idiroko 33KV customers of IBEDC network is pegged at 9MW load allocation with load requirement of 30MW.
“In order to ensure equitable power supply to all our esteemed customers in the area because of the limited allocation, IBEDC has embarked on energy sharing roster.
“Though customers on the main line enjoy better supply than those on the tee-offs being controlled by isolators, the difference in consumption is evident in the lower monthly bills received by customers on tee-offs.
“The supply to the communities on 33KV line is directly from the Transmission Stations, which IBEDC has little or no control over, except when isolators are opened on tee-offs or Transmission company notices that the load consumption of the area is exceeding the pegged megawatts and they would knock the feeder off.’’
Olanrewaju also stated that supply to IKEDC’s customer in Lagos at end of the boundary emanates from 11KV network which is within the control of IKEDC, which makes flexibility easy and supply better around that axis.
She assured that IBEDC is not resting on its oars, adding that it is part of the priority projects the company intends to embark on in the nearest future to construct 33/11KV Injection Substations within our franchise areas in other to assume total control of the available energy and enhance supply to all and sundry in the communities.
Commenting further on the protest by some customers in Elerinko community who were challenging their monthly bill, which they claimed was high, Olarenwaju said that it was because of the very good supply enjoyed by the community and the recent correct customer categorization of the customers which now reflects their real consumption.
She said the customers in this community received electricity supply via Ijoko 33KV mainline with a daily average supply of 20-23 hours.
“We hereby apologize for all inconveniences this irregular supply might have caused all our esteemed customers along the Owode Idiroko – Sango axis, assuring the company’s commitment at delivering on our promises,’’ the statement says.
According to her, from February to August 2018 the following are the monthly available hours of energy received on Lusada feeder main line, 262, 449, 370, 267, 216, 223 and 194 while 131,224, 185, 133, 108 111 and 102 were received on tee-offs respectively.
“On Idi-Iroko feeder, from February to August the following are the monthly available hours of energy received on mainline, 300, 321, 322, 327, 301, 342 and 355 while 150, 160 161, 163, 150, 171 and 181 were received on tee-offs respectively.
She appealed for the understanding of customers over the development, adding that despite the shortfall in power allocation to the company, IBEDC struggled to ensure equitable distribution of the available supply to its esteemed customers.
