In the spirit of the season, the Hydra Edge Foundation has put smiles on the faces of 500 widows, giving them a bag of beans and gari each in Agege, Lagos.
It was an annual event for these widows who, after eating and drinking, danced merrily to a life band of praise and worship on December 22.
The founder, Mrs Abiodun Opeifa, wife of Former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Kayode Opeifa, whose birthday is on Christmas Day, said the year was peculiar because it was the 50th anniversary of her birthday.
“This is the reason I’ve been giving dance offering to thank my maker for the gift of life,” she said.
Opeifa whose passion is to alleviate the suffering of widows and orphans started the foundation in 2008.
For 14 years, she has been putting smiles on the faces of widows and orphans in Agege area of Lagos where she lives.
Two years ago, additional gifts like blender, dish drainer, juicer, jug, and many other kitchen items were also given at the annual community project for widows.
In 2015, the foundation donated generators, deep freezers, grinding machines and baking machines to empower some widows and to improve their businesses.
However, apart from the bags of rice and gari, 20 women in 2011 and 10 women in 2010 got N50, 000 each to help them start a small scale business.
The foundation also engages in vocational training regularly on soap and Adire making.
Apart from the widows, they also train the youths on computer applications, makeup, and tying of Gele.
Opeifa, the Chicago trained social worker said that her foundation was ready to partner with any trustworthy organisation willing to give back to the community.
