No fewer than 47 bandits terrorising several communities in Niger State have been killed by local hunters, PRNigeria reports.
The hunters, in a sting-like operation, raided Magami, a riverine community between Shiroro and Rafi Local government areas on Wednesday and succeeded in killing the bandits.
The hunters also recovered several motorcycles from the bandits during the operation.
A security source told journalists that the community was used as hideout by bandits, who have also established several camps in the axis.
A police officer, who asked not to be named, confirmed that several of the bandits also fled with gunshot wounds.
“I can tell you for a fact that the bandits met their waterloo. At least 47 of them were eliminated by the hunters who participated in the operation,” he said.
PRNigeria could not confirm if the hunters are part of the recently inaugurated Niger Special Vigilante Corps (NSVC) which was formed by the state government to streamline the activities of all local security outfits.
