Matilda Omonaiye/

A young man, who was prevented from committing suicide in Lagos, today, said hunger drove him into the act.

The unidentified man reportedly stripped himself naked and climbed a high tension electricity pole in Ojota area, in an apparent suicide attempt.

NewsmakersNG learnt he was prevented from accomplishing his mission by a crowd of sympathizers attracted to the scene.

The crowd reportedly pleaded with him, until he was persuaded to shelve his plan.

He was later brought down from the pole by some of the sympathizers.

Efforts by NewsmakersNG to ascertain his identity proved abortive.
