Human Rights Groups Teach Girls How To Be Unscripted, Unstoppable.

By Patience Ogbo/

Members of a non-governmental organisation, International Centre for Human Rights, Non-violence and Safety Awareness (ICHRNVSA) were out in number on October 11 to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child alongside other groups.

ICHRNVSA, in conjunction with Youths for Human Rights International YHRI, marked the Girl Child day with female students in Lagos.

The celebration of this year’s theme, Girl Force: Unscripted, Unstoppable ”  took place at the Ansar u deen Girls High School, Onitiri, Lagos.

The secondary school students were taught how they can maximise their potentials to become great in any field of endeavour they chose.

Barr Ene Unobe speaking at the event

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the International Centre for Human Rights Non-Violence and Safety Awareness, Barr. Ene Unobe said, “Your rights as children is constitutional. You are of paramount importance. You have rights to life, rights to education, right to family life, right to dignity among others.

“The society can no longer stop you; you do not have to stop yourself with early pregnancy. Do not drop your backpack of books for babies. Everything has its time. Whatever a man promises to buy for you today, you can buy one hundred pieces for yourself tomorrow when you go through the rigour of success.

“Speak out if you are being molested. Your youth will fade but the character will sustain you. Do not stop yourself until you get to the peak”

Duke Amaliechi, the National Coordinator of Youth for Human Rights International, urged the girls to speak out against crime, sexual abuse and other vices against them. He also taught them to ensure they know their rights and responsibilities.

A session of personal hygiene was held during the event to teach girls how to be clean during their menstrual period. There was also a film show from an unstoppable lady, Tobore Ovuorie, to encourage the girls not to give up despite the challenges they face.
