The police in Lagos have given details of how a young man was electrocuted during a house renovation on Lagos Island.

According to the police spokesman in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a young welder, simply identified as 24-year-old Adedeji, lost his life following the electrocution during the renovation of a two-storey building on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street.

Hundeyin told NewsmakersNG that the incident occurred around 7:00 PM, according to a report filed at the Adeniji Adele Police Division.

He stated that Adedeji, who had been hired to work on the building under the supervision of his employer, was on the second floor when the electrocution happened.

“The force of the electric shock was so severe that it burned off both of his legs
and flung his body to the first floor.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a patrol team and detectives to the scene, where they assessed the tragic event. Photos were taken, and Adedeji’s burnt body was immediately evacuated to Yaba General Hospital. A doctor on duty confirmed him dead upon arrival, and the body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.

“The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the electrocution, while the community mourns the untimely death of the young man,” Hundeyin stated.
