The police in Ogun State have told how they intercepted a kidnapping attempt, rescued four hostages and neutralized two suspects during a gun battle.
Speaking at a media briefing today, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Abiodun Alamatu narrated that the incident began on June 30, 2024, near Delabo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway.
According to him, at approximately 7:10 p.m., armed individuals ambushed a grey Toyota Rav 4 jeep, forcing the vehicle to stop by firing multiple shots at it. The kidnappers abducted the occupants and fled towards Ijebu-Ode.
The Anti-kidnapping squad was immediately dispatched and, through a covert operation, located the suspects hiding in a bush. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of two suspects, while others escaped with injuries.
The hostages, including one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were rescued unharmed. Recovered items included 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, and two cell phones.
The Ogun State Police Command has deployed a rapid response team to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route and urged the public to report any suspicious activity.
