Details have emerged on the Saturday night lone accident that claimed the life of an In-law to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as the victim’s cousin, Chief Kenny Martins mourns.
According to the police, retired Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Olufunsho Martins and his driver died when his Ford Explorer marked GGE 456 BT plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the University of Lagos end of the Third Mainland Bridge at about 10:55pm.
The retired Air Force officer was the Developer of Golden Park Estate, and the Executive Chairman and Founder of Domart Group, with subsidiaries as Martinos Hotel.
His grieving cousin, Chief Martins, told NewsmakersNG in a short message: “So tragic, so sad. We lost my cousin, AVM Olufunsho Martins, yesterday. May the good Lord grant repose to the soul of the departed and give succour to the bereaved. He giveth and He taketh. But Lord, why do the good ones leave so early.”
Information on his LinkedIn page reveals that the late AVM Martins is the owner of popular Events Centre, Martinos, located close to Gani Fawehinmi’s Library and Regency Suites in the Ikeja area of the state, which also has the African Shrine.
Lagos State police spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said that the victims’ bodies and the wreckage of the car were brought to Yaba Police Station around 2am on Sunday by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, led by Adesina Tiamiyu.
LASEMA was the first agency to arrive at the scene of the accident.
