How Falana Whisked Away Sowore, Bakare from Court to Foil their Arrest by SSS

Pat Stevens/

Scores of heavily-armed operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) chased the vehicle of Femi Falana (SAN) who is lawyer to convener of #RevolutionNow Protest, Omoyele Sowore and his co-accused, Olawale Bakare, after he drove them out of the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja this morning.

According to Sahara Reporters, the move by Falana followed the disruption of court proceedings by SSS operatives during the commencement of trial in the case of treason brought against the two by the Federal Government.

SSS operatives had earlier attempted to rearrest Sowore and Bakare inside the courtroom having only released them on bail yesterday night.

The incident led to rancour and commotion inside and around the court premises with the armed operatives preventing Sowore and his legal team from leaving.

It was learnt that Sowore sustained bruises all over his body in the course of being rough-handled by SSS operatives inside the court

However, after several minutes of tension, Falana reportedly drove the two men in his car out of the court premises with SSS operatives in several vehicles giving them a hot chase.

According to the newspaper, Falana later met with Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu and lawyer to the SSS, Hassan Liman, in a bid to resolve the matter.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case to 11, 12 and 13 of February 2020 for further hearing.
