A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, in Lagos today heard how a Danish man, Peter Nielsen, tried to cover up the murder of his wife and daughter.
Police told the court that Nielsen allegedly killed his wife, Zainab Ali-Nielsen, popularly known as Alizee, and their daughter, Petra, then he tried to make it look like suicide.
Police prosecutor, CSP Effiong Asuquo, made the revelation today during Nielsen’s arraignment on two counts charge of murder.
Nielsen is accused of killing his wife, Zainab, 37, and their three-year-old daughter, Petra, on April 5, at their residence at Block 4, Flat 17, Bella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Asuquo stated: “The accused, who was always at loggerheads with his wife, had hit her head on the wall several times, leading to her death. He also proceeded to poison his daughter.
“He had dragged their bodies under the gas to create the impression that they suffocated to death as a result of a gas leakage.”
The charge was read to the accused but his plea was not taken.
The two-count charge read: “That you Peter Nielsen ‘m’ on the 5th April, 2018 at Block 4 Flat 17 Bella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully kill his wife one Zainab Nielsen ‘f’ aged 37 years, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“That you Peter Nielsen ‘m’ on the 5th April. 2018 at Block 4 Flat 17 Rella Vista Tower, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully kill his daughter, one Petra Nielsen, aged 3‘/2 years and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 223’ of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The offences contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes death sentence upon conviction.
Magistrate (Mrs.) K.B. Ayeye ordered that the accused should be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
