The police in Ogun have launched Investigation into a brutal murder in ljebu Ode, which underscores the violent nature of cult rivalries in the Gateway State where victims’ left hands are severed and taken away.
According to the police, the clash resulted in the murder of a middle-aged man, known by the alias “Mosquito.”
The crime was reportedly committed late on the night of August 11, 2024, along ljagun Road in ljebu Ode.
The Police told NewsmakersNG that a distress call was received from a concerned citizen around 11:40 pm, alerting them to the violent confrontation.
Responding swiftly, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer arrived at the scene, where they discovered the lifeless body of ‘Mosquito’.
“Upon closer examination, the officers found machete wounds, gunshot injuries, and the horrifying detail that the victim’s left hand had been severed and taken away.
“The victim, later identified as a member of the Aye confraternity, had been brutally attacked, with six expended cartridges found at the scene, further evidence of the deadly nature of the confrontation. The body was promptly evacuated and taken to ljebu Ode State Hospital, where he was confirmed dead and placed in the morgue,” the police revealed in a statement.
NewsmakersNG learnt that as the police intensify their investigation, efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene and to unravel the disturbing pattern of severing left hands from victims.
The police said that they were determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and curb the rising tide of cult-related violence in the state.
The Police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
