Anti-graft agents have told how they were attacked in Epe area of Lagos today, as they attempted to bust into the home of ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

According to a statement from the spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), investigators who went to Epe today were “attacked by hoodlums sympathetic to the former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode whose administration is a subject of an investigation by the Commission for alleged malfeasance”.

Orilade further stated: “It would be recalled that the Commission obtained valid search warrants to conduct searches on his residences in Park View Ikoyi and Country home in Epe, as part of an ongoing investigation.

“Our operatives visited the Park View, Ikoyi this morning and conducted the search. They were, however, prevented and attacked in Epe by some irate youths who injured three of our officers and damaged our official vehicles.

“Operatives also visited the residence of one of Ambode’s aides, but also came under attack by hoodlums, without any provocations.

“We wish to reiterate that our officers did not raid Ambode’s house in Epe and Ikoyi. We were only there to conduct a valid search when we were attacked. We have valid search warrants for the exercise on the residences.

“The video being circulated suggesting that operatives harassed and intimidated residents of the Epe abode of the ex-governor is far from the truth and meant to deliberately distort the mission of the operatives.

“We, therefore, wish to state that the Commission is a creation of law and we will continue to operate within the ambit of the law.”

Videoes of the encounter are in our earlier published story:
