Another girl has been found strangled in a hotel room in Port Harcourt as a serial killer, like the infamous British Jack the Ripper, has increased victims to eight since last month in Rivers State
The latest victim is an unidentified girl found strangled with a white rag. Pieces of the white cloth were also used to bind her legs and tied her hands to her back inside a room at LA Steph Suits in Omoku, Port Harcourt.
The killing is similar to seven other murders of women in hotel rooms in the state since last month.
“We are aware of it, and that of yesterday,” Rivers State police spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, told NewsmakersNG in a mobile phone chat.
He said that appropriate steps were being taken to end the killings and that four persons are helping the police in their investigations.
Omoni added that the Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura had held a meeting with hoteliers during which he gave them some security tips and urged them to install Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) among other security measures.
London witnessed similar mysterious murder of women in hotel rooms in 1888 by an unidentified killer later nicknamed Jack the Ripper.
He was generally believed to have been active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London. In both the criminal case files and contemporary journalistic accounts, the killer was called the Whitechapel Murderer and Leather Apron.
Attacks ascribed to Jack the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London whose throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led to proposals that their killer had some anatomical or surgical knowledge.
Jack the Ripper was never found.
