Stranded motorists on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos are being attacked by hoodlums after police foiled an attempted attack on a Shoprite store at Osapa London in Lekki today.

Protesters also set bonfires on the expressway to further compound the near-catastrophic traffic situation.

Reports say protesters have also besieged the Ikeja Shopping Mall, which houses another Shoprite store.

A motorist who managed to escape from the scene shared a picture of his vandalised car on WhatsApp forum, with a warning to other motorists to avoid the area.

The unidentified motorist wrote: “Please avoid shoprite Jakande there are hoodies raiding and vandalizing cars. My car was damaged a few minutes ago thank God for life.”

Traffic is said to have stretched from Osapa London to the second roundabout on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Meanwhile, police said they had beefed up security in all parts of the state following the attempted attack on the Shoprite stores and other South African businesses in Lagos.

The police spokesperson, Bala Elkana, stated: “Attacks on Shoprite and other businesses owned by South Africans met stiff resistance. We have beefed up security everywhere. There is no cause for alarm.”

Online videos showed four police patrol vans at the mall at Osapa London as a crowd attempted to enter the mall.

The outrage followed reported attacks on Nigerians businesses in South Africa.
