Hoodlums Stone LASTMA Officer to Death

Matilda Omonaiye/

The Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of one of its officers, Ola Oyeshina, after he was attacked by two hoodlums in Apapa area of the state.

Oyeshina reportedly died this morning while receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the thugs threw a large stone at him yesterday afternoon while he was controlling traffic at Iganmu-Sifax area of Apapa.

A statement today by the spokesperson of LASTMA, Filade Olumide, quoted the agency’s General Manager, Olajide Oduyoye, as condemning the continued attack on the officials while on duty.

The statement adds that the suspects have been arrested and detained at the Area B Command.

The statement reads in part, “Owing to the trauma experienced, he was immediately referred to LUTH from Randle Hospital, Surulere. The LASTMA General Manager further revealed that it is unfortunate that the agency lost the young promising officer in the early hours of Saturday, November 30, 2019.

“He has therefore assured that the perpetrators of the dastardly act that were caught will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other members of the public who may harbour committing such crime in future.”
