Barrister Augustine Nwagu, CN, has officially retired from a laudable career in legal service, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, resilience, and exemplary service.
Born to the late Chief Paul Nwagu and the late Mrs. Stella Nwagu of Akwu-Akokwa in Ideato-North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nwagu’s journey began with a strong educational foundation, which he built upon at the prestigious University of Nigeria and later, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Starting his career with private legal practice in Lagos, Nwagu’s path took a decisive turn when he joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in 1997. Over 27 years, he climbed the ranks, serving in various critical roles across Nigeria. His tenure included positions as a prosecutor and command posts, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the agency’s mission.
One of the highlights of his career was his appointment as Principal Staff Officer in charge of Prosecution at the National Headquarters in Lagos. His performance earned him international training and recognition, solidifying his reputation as a dedicated and capable legal professional.
In 2016, Barrister Nwagu took on the role of Head of Prosecution and Legal Services for the Joint Border Task Force, a testament to his expertise and the trust placed in him by both the NDLEA and international partners.
Beyond his professional achievements, Nwagu is a devoted family man, married to Mrs. Anthonia Nwagu and father to three children. Known for his love of positive company, squash, and relaxation, he now steps into a well-deserved retirement, leaving a legacy of integrity and service.
In a statement issued today, the NDLEA Media Unit at MMIA, Lagos, commemorates his remarkable contributions and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.
