Heirs Holdings (HH), a leading pan-African investment company, has held its HH Group Directors’ Annual Summit at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja from June 13-16, 2024.
The summit brought together over 100 board members from HH’s diverse portfolio of investee companies, highlighting the group’s significant contributions across multiple sectors.
The event, themed “HH Impact,” celebrated the group’s business achievements and reinforced its commitment to strong corporate governance and long-term investment strategies. Sectors represented included healthcare, power, energy, technology, financial services, hospitality, and real estate. Trustees from the Tony Elumelu Foundation, HH’s philanthropic arm known for empowering young African entrepreneurs, were also in attendance.
Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, Group Chairman of Heirs Holdings, underscored the company’s mission to “build to last” and “build for impact.”
He said, “Over the past decade, we have instilled the importance of robust corporate governance in our operations. Our long-term, strategic investments are essential to our success, allowing us to redefine excellence in every sector and fulfill our purpose of improving lives and transforming Africa.”
The summit’s closing ceremony featured a distinguished roster of guests, including Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON. He lauded Elumelu’s transformative influence on Nigeria and Africa’s banking and entrepreneurial landscape, describing him as a “banking colossus” and a “power industrialist”.
Heirs Holdings’ investment portfolio is a testament to the philosophy of Africapitalism, which posits that the African private sector can drive significant economic and social change. HH’s investments have created over 40,000 jobs across 20 African countries and other international locations, including the UK, UAE, France, and the USA.
Key investments include Heirs Energies Limited, a top indigenous energy company; Heirs Insurance Group, pioneering financial inclusion in Nigeria; United Capital Plc, a leader in various financial services; Transcorp Group Plc, with significant contributions in power and hospitality; Avon HMO and Avon Medical in healthcare; Afriland Properties in real estate; and technology ventures Redtech and Heirs Technologies.
Heirs Holdings’ philanthropic efforts through the Tony Elumelu Foundation have empowered 1.5 million young Africans, disbursing $100 million in seed capital to 20,000 entrepreneurs across the continent, resulting in the creation of over 400,000 jobs.
