Armed assailants suspected to be terrorists have attacked Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Monday, killing one resident and abducting more than 30 passengers from a commercial bus.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2.25am on June 1, 2026, when gunmen invaded the community and opened fire, leaving one person dead and another injured.
Residents said panic spread rapidly as the attackers operated for several minutes without resistance.
Local sources stated that at least two residents, a man and a woman, were among those abducted during the raid.
Local platform, Egbe Mekun Parrot, also reported the abduction of two community members alongside other victims.
In a separate development during the same attack, the gunmen were said to have intercepted a commercial bus passing through the area, forcing passengers off the vehicle before marching them into the surrounding forest.
More than 30 people were reportedly taken away in total.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the attackers withdrew from the scene without confrontation, escaping with the victims to an undisclosed location.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
