Gunmen Kill 8 NSCDC Officers, Abduct Chinese Expatriate at BUA Cement Plant

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in an attack on the BUA Cement plant in Okpella, Edo State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident occurred around 10pm yesterday when the armed men ambushed a security convoy escorting five Chinese expatriates to base after a routine patrol.

Witnesses said the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, opened fire on the team at the entrance of the company.

Eight NSCDC operatives and one civilian were killed in the ambush, while four other officers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Despite the heavy attack, four of the expatriates were rescued unhurt, while one was abducted by the gunmen.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, later visited the scene of the attack and also checked on the wounded personnel in hospital.

When contacted, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Edo State, Efosa Ogbebor, declined to comment, saying that a formal statement would be issued by the Corps’ national headquarters.
