Gunmen have kidnapped Oreoluwa Osunuga, son-in-law of veteran journalist and former Managing Director of the defunct Monitor newspaper, Ayo Akinyemi, in Ikenne, Ogun State, with his abductors reportedly demanding N500 million ransom.
Osunuga, who owns a farm settlement in Ikenne, was abducted on Sunday afternoon while driving out of the farm to buy fuel and deliver poultry products.
Sources said the gunmen intercepted him shortly after he left the farm, forcibly took him away and abandoned his vehicle at the scene.
His whereabouts remained unknown to his family and workers as of the time of filing this report.
The kidnappers reportedly established contact with the family using Osunuga’s mobile phone and demanded N500 million for his release.
Following a report of the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ikenne Division led a team of policemen to the scene.
The victim’s 2017 Toyota Highlander was recovered and subsequently taken to the Ikenne Divisional Police Headquarters as investigations and rescue efforts intensified.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, confirmed the abduction when contacted at about 9:50 p.m. on Sunday.
Ojajuni said the command had immediately activated measures aimed at locating the kidnappers and rescuing Osunuga.
The police commissioner indicated that operatives were making progress in the rescue operation, assuring that efforts were underway to secure the victim’s safe release.
The incident comes amid intensified security operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.
