At least 11 residents of Isapa, a community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been abducted by armed men in a fresh attack that occurred on Monday evening, barely 24 hours after worshippers earlier kidnapped in neighbouring Eruku were released.
The gunmen, estimated at between 20 and 30, reportedly stormed the community around 6pm, firing sporadically as they advanced.
Residents fled in panic as bullets tore through doors and walls, and expended AK-47 shells were later recovered across several parts of the town.
Community sources confirmed that 11 persons were taken, seven from the same household.
Those abducted include a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, and several young children.
They were identified as Talatu Kabiru (20), Magaji (6), Kande (5), Hadiza (10), Mariam (6), Saima (5), two housewives, Habibat and Fatima Yusufu, as well as Sarah Sunday (22, pregnant), Lami Fidelis (23, nursing mother), and another nursing mother, Haja Na Allah.
An elderly woman was said to have been struck by a stray bullet during the attack.
The incident has deepened fear across Isapa and surrounding settlements.
Local vigilante groups were said to have engaged the attackers before they retreated with their captives.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track the kidnappers.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident, saying he was entering Isapa from Ilorin and would provide details after assessing the situation.
The attack comes on the heels of the release of 18 worshippers kidnapped during a thanksgiving service at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku about a month ago. That church was attacked again during another service, leading to the killing of three persons and the abduction of 38.
Nigeria continues to grapple with one of its worst security crises in recent history, with mass abductions contributing to widespread fear and disruption, including the closure of schools in several northern states.
