Gunmen Abduct Reggae Star, Victor Essiet

Ladipo Sanusi/

Popular reggae musician Victor Essiet was today abducted by unknown gunmen.

Essiet is the leader of the renowned reggae band ‘The Mandators’ that ruled the Nigerian music scene in the 90s.

NewsmakersNG learned that the artiste was abducted by some armed men outside the premises of the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.

The musician had just finished attending a court proceeding and was on his way when the incident happened.

His lawyer Charles Lambo confirmed the development to NewsmakersNG in an interview.

Lambo said: “Mandator was at the Magistrate Court One early this morning to attend a criminal matter between him and a complainant Morris Etim who accused him of obtaining money under false pretence.

“The court however discharged and acquitted him of the charge. It was while he was returning home that some fully armed men blocked his car and forcibly took him away. As I am speaking with you no one has any idea of his whereabouts.”

The lawyer also claimed the musician had been receiving a series of threat messages lately from faceless people vowing to use everything in their power to deal with him.
