The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed that eight persons out of the nin that were kidnapped by gunmen yesterday, have regained their freedom.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said that eight of the victims were now in safe hands, while the ninth person, who escaped from the abductors is yet to be located.
Irene said earlier reports that the abduction was carried out by herdsmen were untrue.
The police spokesman added that the incident was a case of armed robbery.
Media reports had claimed that the victims were kidnapped yesterday by suspected herdsmen along Calabar-Ikom highway in Cross River State.
