The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity after operatives allegedly found a locally made pistol concealed inside a bag in his possession in Mushin.
The suspect, identified as Segun Alani, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation at Ogunmokun Under-Bridge, Mushin, following information received by the police about suspected cult activities in the area.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, August 14, 2026.
According to the Command, operatives moved swiftly to the location after receiving the intelligence and mounted surveillance that led to Alani’s arrest.
A search of a bag allegedly found in his possession subsequently yielded a locally made single-barrel pistol, which police said had been concealed inside.
The Command said preliminary investigation linked the suspect to the Eiye Confraternity, one of the cult groups whose activities security agencies have been battling across parts of Lagos.
Alani is currently in police custody and is reportedly providing information that could assist investigators in their efforts to identify other suspects and unravel possible cult-related activities in the area.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what he described as their prompt response and intelligence-driven operation.
Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s determination to disrupt cult networks and take illegal firearms off the streets across Lagos.
He warned cultists and other criminal elements to abandon their activities or face the full weight of the law.
The latest arrest comes amid intensified police operations against cultism and the proliferation of illegal weapons in different parts of Lagos.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information on suspicious movements and activities, assuring the public of prompt police response.
