Fearing that Ogun State could be a political hotbed during the March 9 Governorship and State Assembly elections, police authorities have set up a special operational base in the state from where a top cop would supervise activities in the whole of Southwest.
Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, reveals to NewsmakersNG in a statement today that the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has directed the Deputy Inspector General Of Police (DIG) Yakubu Jubril to supervise election in Southwest states of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun and Lagos and make Ogun State his operational headquarters.
The statement says the action was taken in view of “the peculiar security situation in respect of the Gubernatorial/State House of Assembly elections in Ogun State”.
Oyeyemi stated: “To this end, all Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIGs, deployed to each state of the region will be taking necessary directives from the Operational base in Ogun State.”
According to the statement, the supervising DIG can be reached through his GSM line 08081775358.
