Okoye and the recovered vehicle

Police detectives in Ogun State have launched a manhunt for a security guard (name withheld), who allegedly conspired with a car thief, Okoye Michael, to steal a vehicle from the premises of his employers.
Newsmakers learned that the suspect, who worked in a company (name withheld) in Sango area of the state, allegedly stole the key of a Kia Cerato parked on the company’s premises and handed it over to his accomplice, Michael, to enable the latter steal the vehicle.
The suspect, it was learned, further aided Michael by granting him access to the premises and also allowing him to drive off the vehicle without the necessary authorisation.
Michael was later accosted by Anti-robbery operatives attached to the Sango Police Division, who were on routine patrol, on December 3, while he was trying to drive the vehicle out of town.
The detectives flagged him down, questioned him and subsequently arrested him, when he could not answer their questions satisfactorily. Further investigations revealed how he got the car.
While confirming the incident, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave assurances that the police would arrest the fleeing suspect.
He also disclosed that two other suspects were arrested with a suspected stolen Toyota Highlander in the same town around the same period.
He said the suspects, Kazeem Adeyemi and Jide Omotunde, were accosted by detectives, in Temidire area of Sango and were arrested after they failed to offer satisfactory explanation on the ownership of the vehicle.
Oyeyemi reiterated the advice of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, to the public to ensure they conduct background checks on prospective employers, especially domestic and security staff.
