The police, on Thursday, arraigned a staff of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), for allegedly stealing the sum of N8,449,000 from the accounts of two customers.
Bidemi Wasiu, who worked in the Osogbo, Osun State branch of the bank, was arraigned before Magistrate O.O. Owunmi of Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, in Lagos, on three counts charge of stealing.
He was arrested by officers from the Victoria Island Police Division, Bar Beach, Lagos, following a complaint by his employers.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Mameh, told the Court that the banker committed the alleged offences between November 2016 and April this year.
Mameh further told the Court that the defendant unlawfully withdrew the sum of N4 million from the account of a customer, Ogunmade Victoria, and N4,449,000 from the account of another customer, Olalekan Abiola.
The prosecutor said that the defendant, thereafter, transferred the money to the accounts of his friends, Ojeleye Tawakalitu and Wisdom Marshal Njoku, from where he later withdrew it.
According to Mameh, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 337(a) and 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was, consequently, granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate also directed that the sureties must deposit the sum of N200,000 each with the Court’s Chief Registrar and adjourned the matter till June 6.

Greed!!!! I think it is high time we applied what’s called credit and criminal checks in the system. Obviously when you steal, you know getting another job would be near impossible therefore, the need to be at your best behaviour at all times, where ever you are would be made a priority.
