Members of #Prayer & Support 4 The Nigerian Armed Forces & Other Security Agencies have congratulated the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, describing his appointment as a defining moment for the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued in Lagos on February 26, 2026, the Convener of the Association, Mary Abayomi Fatile, said Disu’s elevation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was well deserved and reflective of his professionalism, disciplined leadership, humility, courage, and dedication to national service.
Fatile noted that Disu’s strong relationship with citizens has earned him widespread public trust, citing the period of the EndSARS protests as evidence of his credibility and responsiveness.
“When a Rapid Response Squad vehicle was destroyed during the protests, the reaction of the public and the media reflected the deep confidence Nigerians have in him. He has always been prompt, reliable, and ready to assist whenever called upon,” she said.
According to the group, Disu’s career embodies a rare combination of operational competence and strategic leadership.
As Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, he championed intelligence-led and proactive policing initiatives that enhanced public safety and strengthened rapid response effectiveness.
His tenure as Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Association added, further demonstrated his capacity to manage complex and sensitive operations with precision and professionalism.
Disu also served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, where he was credited with strong administrative oversight, crisis management skills, and firm commitment to law and order in challenging environments.
Before his elevation, he was Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, a role in which he reportedly reinforced investigative standards, strengthened institutional discipline, and promoted professionalism within the Force.
The Association acknowledged the enormity of the responsibility before the new Acting IGP, particularly amid Nigeria’s evolving and complex security landscape.
Fatile expressed optimism that Disu’s leadership would mark a turning point in public perception of the Police, helping to correct longstanding misconceptions and restore confidence in the institution.
She added that his tenure is expected to prioritise intelligence-driven policing, deepen inter-agency collaboration, improve officers’ welfare and discipline, integrate modern technology into crime prevention, and uphold the rule of law while safeguarding citizens’ rights.
“The gap between the Police and the people can be bridged through trust, collaboration, and mutual respect. With his discipline, operational acumen, and reform-driven approach, IGP Disu inspires hope for renewed public trust and strengthened national security,” she stated.
The group pledged its full support to the Acting Inspector-General, expressing confidence that his tenure would be marked by transformative reforms and measurable progress in repositioning the Nigeria Police Force as a more accountable, efficient, and citizen-focused institution.
