A Lagos-based group known as Omo Adugbo Egbeda Association is rolling out the drums this weekend to celebrate a worthy ambassador of the Egbeda Community in the Alimosho area of the state.
Members of the Association have picked the birthday of their President, Lion Sunday Obisesan, as a day to showcase his sterling qualities and humanitarian services to the world.
Hoping to inscribe Obisesan’s name on the tablet of eternity as a philanthropist per excellence, members of the group as part of a series of activities have written a billet-doux in which they described the distinguished member of the Lions Club as “a philanthropist whose commitment to serving humanity is remarkable. A Pastor in God’s vineyard, a lovely family man, a trustworthy and dependable ally. What else than to praise God, who has made him to be a total package”.
The letter says: “You leave everyone in awe. At 48+1 you have more going on in your life than most people in a whole lifetime. Writing about you is somehow easy and pretty like an adventurer’s memoir.
“There is no doubt that you are among the finest that came out from Egbeda, like the great British writer, Jane Austen wrote, “Wisdom and Greatness are oftentimes nearer when we stoop than when we soar.
“March 12, 1972, would mark a turning point to Pastor Luke and Deaconess Lydia Obisesan, for an addition to the family, a joyous day no doubt. Baby Sunday Obisesan became part of the noble family.
“To us at the Association, some of us grew knowing you while some met you at the consummation of the Omo Adugbo Egbeda.
“In reminiscence, your white and white uniform as a student of Lagos Baptist Secondary School, Orile Agege, stood you out during your academic years. As young as you were then, your activities in Egbeda was quite revealing, as you participated actively in all community services.
“With your craving for excellence and greatness, and like many others in Egbeda, you sojourned to Europe, France, to be precise where you attended Claude Bernard University, in Lyon.
“It is pertinent to note that your growing up was not without challenges. Rather your ability to expand your horizon inflated your capacity in being able to rise above it. Remembering vividly, your toiling days, working tirelessly to earn a living wage. Firstly it was here in Lagos that you started your working experience, moving down to Abuja for a better pay job. All these were the torrid of coming from a not too average family. Yet you stood firmly, in your believe for a better tomorrow.
“The challenge of leadership and communal services fell on your laps, when at a critical time in Egbeda, we stood to be counted as a Community with distinguished personalities and a closely-knitted neighborhood.
“The responsibilities fell on you and to the glory of God, you have discharged your services to the best of your abilities and the delights of all Omo Adugbo.
“A distinguished member of the Lions Club, a philanthropist whose commitment to serve humanity is non-negotiable. A Pastor in God’s vineyard, a lovely family man, a trustworthy and dependable ally. What else than to praise God, who has made him to be a total package.
“As we mark your birthday, the entire Association is standing up for you. Thanking you in a million ways, for your leadership, commitment and benevolence as you continue to paddle the ship of our Association towards a glorious port.
“May the good Lord uphold you, continue to bless you with abundant wealth and quality health.
“Your Lion will continue to roar. Happy Birthday to our distinguished President.”
